Privacy Is a Gradient
Written by NATTHA / Natthapon Khemmueang
We often draw privacy as though it were binary.
Public here.
Private there.
A line between the two.
But people rarely experience privacy as a line on a plan.
Public
Private

Someone sitting inside a room may still want daylight.
They may want to see leaves moving outside.
They may want to know that other people are nearby without being directly exposed to them.
Another person may need stronger separation.
Privacy therefore has degrees.
Privacy

In BANG CHAK, bamboo, planting, screens, glazing, walls and distance can be read as different filters.
One layer may soften a view.
Another interrupts direct eye contact.
Another closes the relationship completely.
Designing privacy becomes less about choosing between glass and wall and more about arranging these layers in the right sequence.
