Privacy Is Not the Same as Closing Everything

There are days when we want the world outside to disappear.

And there are other days when we want the same room to open again, see the trees, receive daylight and feel that life is still happening around us.

This is why I do not find the question “Is this house private?” very useful on its own. I am more interested in asking Can the person living there decide when to be private?

A house can close when someone needs distance, and open again when that distance is no longer necessary.

Privacy then becomes less about building the thickest possible boundary. It becomes the ability to control one's relationship with what is outside.

For me, freedom at home may be less about having unlimited space and more about still having choices.
