Room for Elbows
Written by NATTHA / Natthapon Khemmueang
A dining table drawn as a rectangle is easy to admire. Add the person pulling out a chair, another passing behind, and a hand setting down a plate, and the questions become more exact.

Try it as a drawing exercise. Start with the long table and pendant shown in the NONG CHOM visualisation, then consider the movements around them. The row of chairs, curtained glazing and kitchen backdrop locate the table clearly. Pulling a chair out introduces another outline that a neatly arranged view can easily overlook.
I like the table as an organising element. It gathers a room without surrounding it with walls. But I would not let its composure in the image distract from the less photogenic questions about chair movement, passing space and the route from the kitchen.

Before deciding how the table should be dressed, I would make room for an elbow.
