Double-height spaces photograph well. That is exactly why I think they deserve suspicion.

Height consumes volume. It changes structure, services, lighting, acoustic conditions and usable floor relationships. If the only answer is “it looks impressive,” the project may be paying a great deal for an image.

During SUKHUMVIT 105’s development, the double-height condition was tested rather than treated as fixed from the beginning. In the current proposal, its value is easier to discuss when the stair, upper balustrade, reception and lower seating can be seen in relation to one another. The void can help reveal that the building continues vertically.
