The Spaces We Pass Through Still Matter

The everyday route is rarely the hero image

When houses are selected for publication, we often begin with the views that show the building clearly, the pool beautifully, or the spaces that feel like the “destinations” of domestic life. Parking and circulation tend to arrive later in the sequence, even though we may use them more often than many photogenic rooms.

Between arriving and being home

I am interested in the territory between “arriving” and “being home.”

Parking does not have to become an afterthought

At BANG BUA THONG, the long parking roof, walls, columns and paving bands build a visual rhythm towards the residential entrances. This does not make parking the hero of the project. It simply refuses to treat it as a leftover problem to disguise at the end.

Repetition gives ordinary space its importance

The importance of circulation lies in repetition. Where do we step out of the car? When does the door come into view? Which part of the route is exposed and which part is under cover? These spaces may not become memories in the way a dining table or living room does, but the body learns them every day.

Not every important space needs to be photogenic

For me, good design should not divide space into “important” and “later” according to how impressive it looks in an image. Ordinary functional areas do not need to shout, but they deserve enough clarity to do their work without disturbing everything around them.

A house can feel considered before the door opens

Sometimes what makes a house feel considered is not its most beautiful room. It is the absence of a forgotten moment between switching off the engine and placing a hand on the front door.
