Quiet architecture still has to tell you where to enter

I like buildings that do not need to shout across the street.

But “quiet” can become an excuse surprisingly quickly. If someone arrives for the first time and has to scan every opening to guess which one is the entrance, the restraint belongs to the image, while the effort has been transferred to the visitor.

That tension is visible in SUKHUMVIT 105. The upper part of the building is comparatively solid. The lower level becomes more transparent. The clinic name sits on a horizontal band, and the glass begins to show the activity behind it. None of these elements needs to be spectacular on its own. Together, they have to give enough hierarchy for the building to be read.

Design visualisation of the SUKHUMVIT 105 street facade, with a curved frontage above the glazed entrance.

For me, quiet architecture is not architecture that says less at any cost. It is architecture that knows which information deserves to arrive first.
